I put a candle on the spot where the neighbor died. We will not call him a drifter, like the newspaper did. He was a neighbor and he was loved. So many candles and prayers are there. I went to a community block meeting and met the guy who runs NY sanitation. Nice guy, but not a clue about the fact sometimes the system doesn't run the way its supposed to. Hopefully, he'll help some neighbors with major issues. Here I am complaining about my little garden (which it turns out wind blows trash into) and building owners have contractors illegally dumping construction site trash outside their doors because our block happens to have privately leased construction dumpsters. One woman was getting fined because her home is next to a vacant building with mucho hazards.
There is promise that a concerted group effort to get us trees and flowers to plant may be happening. I'm crossing my fingers.
