Harlem Meer, Central Park

Our first day back in the park in a long time.

We were there, and will be there for the next 6 weeks, for a toddler playgroup focused on math. Sounds crazy? Well, not so much. I find it brilliant. They are already experimenting and learning their numbers by counting steps, putting change in their piggy banks, proudly stating their age, etc. And the truth of the matter is little girls, especially, seem to lose interest in math and science early into their education. So why not build appreciation and confidence early on, where they can be around other children in a fun, playful and educational environment. It's a learning process for us all, parents trying to figure out whether to stay back or step in to help, instructor trying to figure out what activities suit this age group best, toddlers trying to learn through play in the activities. A smart mommy thought of the idea and got us a great location, the Discovery Center on Harlem Meer, and she interviewed for the teacher. Then we parents pitch in together and have our own little learning playgroup. Kudos to Detria for organizing.
